Making A Purchase
We accept orders both online and by telephone. Although, since the advent of the Licensing Act 2003, we no longer need to impose a minimum number of bottles per order, we do ask that your order is of a value of at least £75 (plus £7.50 delivery, if less than £200). This is because we absorb some of the cost of packaging and delivery (which is actually far more than the £7.50 we charge). Therefore, it would be uneconomical to accept orders of less than a certain value. We thank you for your understanding. Our mail order service is available for deliveries to anywhere in mainland U.K., and we also offer a fast local delivery service, in the Nottingham area. We do not run a shop and do not offer a collection service from either of the addresses shown in the "About Us" section.
Making a purchase could not be easier. Just browse our Catalog, and click on any items that you wish to buy and put them into the shopping cart. After you have finished your selection, click on "Order" and you will be asked for a few details that we need to be able to satisfy the order. Please ensure that you select both a method of payment AND a method of delivery from the dropdown menus provided.
All customers must be aged 18 years or over. We supply within the UK only.
The contract between us comes into force when we have received your order and accepted it.
The prices published on our website are for bottles of size 75cl unless otherwise stated. Prices are U.K duty paid and include VAT at 20%, but exclude carriage. Prices are subject to change in line with currency movements, tax and duty changes, changes in supply and transportation costs or for any other reason. We will normally absorb minor fluctuations in costs. In the event of significant price alterations, which would result in extra cost to you the customer, we will of course contact you.
Payments should normally be with order. We accept payment by most major credit and debit cards. We also accept payment by cheque (payable to Leon Stolarski Fine Wines) or cash (local service only). We will not charge your account until your goods are shipped.
Shipping And Handling
For mail order customers, charges for delivery to a single address on the UK mainland are as follows:
For orders between £75 and £200, the delivery charge is £7.50 (including VAT). Orders over £200 will be delivered free of charge.
Orders sent to multiple addresses will be treated as separate orders for delivery charge purposes.
Delivery to non-mainland addresses (Scottish Highlands and Islands, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, etc.) is usually possible, but may not be on a next-working-day basis, and is now quite expensive so will be charged at cost - please call us for a quote.
For local customers in the Nottingham area, we will deliver free of charge - please call to enquire. For the sake of clarity, anywhere within a 15 mile radius of Nottingham will qualify for free delivery.
In the interests of transparency, here is a little about how we arrive at our delivery charges:
The carriage charges we pay to our courier are currently set at £8.50 (plus VAT) for consignments of between 1 and 10 kilos in weight, plus 32p (plus VAT) per kilo thereafter. Therefore, the minimum that WE pay per consignment is £10 (inc. VAT) whether it is one bottle or seven bottles. A dozen bottles weighs-in at approximately 16 kilos, for which we pay £12 (inc. VAT). For 24 bottles, we pay around £18 (inc VAT). So you can see that the courier charges do actually decrease (if calculated "per bottle") the more we send. We feel that these costs are too much to pass on (in their entirity) to our customers, so we prefer to limit the cost to you to just £7.50 (inc. VAT) or to absorb the cost ourselves completely for orders over £200. This is the point from where we can pay the courier costs and still make a little bit of margin - so you are happy and so are we(!)
Delivery other than for local service is by courier. We endeavour to dispatch your wines within 48 hours of receiving your order. When payment is made by credit or debit card, in most cases your wine will arrive within 3 working days, although you should allow up to a week. In the case of payment by cheque (please telephone us to arrange this) we reserve the right to await cheque clearance prior to despatch of goods. Deliveries by carrier are not made on Saturdays, Sundays, or Bank Holidays. Additionally there may be occasional office closures due to holidays etc, and when the normal delivery schedule will not be possible; these will be advised on our website. If this applies, your order may still be placed, and will be processed on our return. However you will be notified by email of any delay, and you will have the option to cancel.
Breakages/Damage - wine should be examined on delivery for both condition and completeness/correctness of order. Any problems should be noted on the delivery note, and we should be advised as soon as possible, and at the latest within 48 hours. If it is not possible to inspect the goods on delivery, the carrier's delivery note should be marked "unexamined".
Special Delivery Instructions - if you do not expect to be at home to receive your wine when it is delivered, you may leave special delivery instructions (e.g. "leave in shed", "leave behind side gate"). We are happy to pass these instructions to the carriers, however neither we nor the carriers will accept responsibility should for any reason the wines be lost, stolen, or damaged as a result of such instructions being followed.
We aim to stock all wines in our list, and replenish stocks of each wine, as and when necessary. However, all products are offered subject to availability. Some of the wines are made in very small quantities and it may not be possible to obtain replacement stocks quickly or even at all. You will always receive precisely the wines you ordered. In the event that a particular wine is not available, we will contact you to discuss alternatives (possibly including an alternative vintage of the same wine), or alternatively you may wish to wait until stocks are available. You will always be contacted with the option to cancel your order if you would rather not wait.
All wine prices on this website are U.K duty paid (currently £1.81 per 75cl bottle for table wines) and include VAT at 20%.
Credit Card Security
All credit card numbers are encrypted in the software when the order is placed using 128 bit encryption and secure socket layer (SSL) technology provided by our website host. They are only decrypted after they reach our computer, which is itself protected by a firewall. No credit card details are held in clear text on any web site.
Wine is a living, breathing thing and can sometimes therefore be unpredictable. We offer a guarantee of quality; if any wine proves to be corked*, or in any other way faulty as a result of the winemaking process, we will generally either replace it or provide an alternative wine or, if you prefer, issue a refund or credit note to the value of the purchase price. We do not necessarily apply a time limit on this guarantee - we have great confidence in the wines we sell, which range from those ideal for immediate drinking right through to those that can age for many years. Please note, however, that the description of each wine in our online shop includes a projected "drinking window", being what we consider to be an accurate assessment of the wine's ability to age. If a wine has exceeded this "window" by the time you choose to drink it, we will not be liable to either replace it or give a refund. Other than this, we place a great deal of trust in the integrity of our customers - all we ask is that common sense should prevail in deciding whether what is in the bottle is truly faulty (as a result of the winemaking process) or simply the result of poor storage conditions by the customer.
If you have any questions or comments regarding our guarantee policy, or wish to report a faulty wine, please contact us by telephone, letter or e-mail, and we will do our best to respond as quickly as possible.
*About "corked" wine: Should you find a bottle which displays mould, wet cardboard or similar musty or "metallic" taint, it is a classic sign that the wine is corked. Trichloroanisole, otherwise known as TCA, is a compound associated with cork and wood treatments that can make a wine smell, and taste, anything from slightly muted to very mouldy, and can occur in varying degrees. Exposure to air normally accentuates the problem. We are all different, and some people will have a greater "sensitivity" to TCA than others; the experienced may spot it immediately, whilst others may put it down to an "off" (or just plain bad) bottle. We at Leon Stolarski Fine Wines only sell wines from quality-minded growers, who take great pride in their products, all the way from the vine to the bottle. But even the use of the best possible cork closures cannot always guarantee against TCA. So please don't blame the wine itself! We want our customers to keep returning, so if you encounter a problem, please call us to arrange a replacement/alternative/refund/credit, and we will do our best to rectify the problem.
If you need to reach us, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively, you can call on 0115 9529387 or fax us on the same number. Any callers from outside the U.K should add +44 to the beginning of the telephone or fax number. You may also write to us at;

However we aim to comply with the Distance Selling Code of Practice for Wines and Spirits ("the code") published by the Wine and Spirits Association. This gives customers the right to cancel any Wine by Mail purchase, except for bespoke shipments, up to seven days after receipt of the goods, conditional on the goods remaining in good condition. Goods should be returned in the same condition in which they were supplied, and with bottles unopened, at the customer's expense. Monies will then be refunded in accordance with the code. This does not apply to export orders.
