Vinaigrier - make vinegar from your wine leftovers!
Vinaigrier

Have you ever wondered what you could do with those wine bottle ends and dregs, or even wines that you simply don’t like? Make your own delicious wine vinegar, of course!

People have been making vinegar from wine for centuries, by way of a simple microbiological process that turns ethyl alcohol into acetic acid. There really is no secret to making good vinegar - all you need is some wine, a decent vinaigrier..... and a little patience to begin with. But within a few weeks, you can begin using your lifetime's supply of delicious wine vinegar. All you have to do, once you have started drawing-off your vinegar is to top the vinaigrier up with more wine. There are very few rules to which you must adhere, and you can use virtually any style of wine you like. The only thing you must not use is "corked" or musty wine - corked wine will make corked vinegar, so the best place for it is down the drain.

These beautiful hand-thrown, kiln-glazed vinaigriers (capacity 2.5 to 3 litres) are produced exclusively for us at a small Derbyshire pottery and are quite unlike other commercially-manufactured two-piece cast versions. The whole process takes at least 2 weeks and no two vinaigriers are identical, making for a truly artisan product. The iron oxide glaze formulation, which is applied to the top half of the exterior and the whole of the interior, is also unique and produced within the pottery. Kiln firing to a temperature of 1,280 centigrade makes them extra tough as well as attractive. The taps (or “robinets”) are produced by an independent craftsman and imported by us directly from France.

These vinaigriers are beautiful, yet functional items of furniture, fit to grace any kitchen worktop - and with the added bonus of you never having to buy expensive wine vinegar again! They also make for an unusual yet extremely practical gift.
They are available in 2 colour options - cobalt blue glaze or olive green glaze (please specify which colour you prefer when ordering through our online shop). Full instructions for making your vinegar are of course included.

Note: Other colour options may be available on request (please contact us by email or telephone) though please bear in mind that these would be made to order, and therefore the delivery time would be up to a month after placing your order.
