Classic Burgundy aromas of sous-bois and farmyard, combined with wild strawberry, cherry and cream. The palate is light but velvety, offering a lovely mouthful of redcurrant and cherry fruit. Light tannins and nice acidity, in a wine that possesses lightness of touch, yet ldepth and elegance. It went beautifully with a simple dish of roast duck and Dauphinoise potatoes. Another excellent 2002, from a highly respected grower/negociant.
A lovely shade of brick/ruby, with a pale brick rim and an attractive wild strawberry and sous bois nose. A hint of farmyard, too. The palate begins a touch rustic, but opens out beautifully with time in the glass. Notes of red cherry, wild strawberry and a hint of cocoa combine in a lovely, mouthwatering, sweet and sour style. A lovely expression of semi-mature Cote Chalonnaise Burgundy.
A pale/medium ruby red colour. Aromas of cherry, blueberry, vanilla, with interesting notes of sous bois and cigar box. The palate offers nicely developed flavours of red fruits and cherry skins. There is some savoury depth and chocolatey richness, together with hints of cinnamon and clove, in a very elegant wine. A fine 1er Cru Burgundy, at a bargain price. Clive Coates said of this wine; "Substantial. Very good fruit. Ripe tannins. Very good grip. This is fully worthy of being a premier cru. Very good."
A fair dollop of volatile acidity, with notes of farmyard, forest floor, wild strawberries and cream, ginger and clove. Immensly complex and interesting, with rich, sweet, fresh Pinot fruit. Spicy and more-ish. This won't appeal to everyone, but if you like some volatile acidity in your wine (think Chateau Musar) then you will probably love this hugely interesting wine. Delicious stuff!
Clear, bright ruby red. Raspberries and strawberries abound on the nose, with hints of sous bois, cream and tobacco. A lovely core of sweet and sour fruits (raspberry and cranberry) with a backbone of high-ish acidity and savoury tannins. Only recently bottled, so it needs a little time to settle down. Can be drunk now, though it needs food at the moment. This is made by Vincent's son Baptiste, and is a lovely, vibrant wine, which bodes well for the future continuity of this brilliant domaine.
Raspberry and cherry aromas, with a hint of vanilla and allspice. Sweet fruit matched by lovely acidity and a long, spicy, sweet and sour finish - textbook young Givry. A really lovely wine, and a great introduction to fine 1er Cru Burgundy, at a price that doesn't break the bank.
Aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, cinnamon and clove, with a lick of vanilla. Light-to-medium bodied, the palate has bags of fruit flavours, with a soft spiciness and a delightful streak of minerally acidity. Time in the glass, tobacco and sous bois notes develop, and the fruit gains more flesh. Even on the day after opening, it continues to evolve - a sure sign of a wine built to last. A really lovely wine, from a great vintage - and a great introduction to fine 1er Cru Burgundy.
Clear ruby red, with blackberry, wild strawberry and cherry aromas, complimented by subtle spice, bread and oak nuances. This is somewhat richer and sweeter of fruit than the Clos Jus, with dark berry and cherry flavours, some spiciness and chocolatey intensity. The tannins are grippy, but fine, with a huge core of fruit that will blossom over the next year or two. This is a superb wine, and as good as it gets in red 1er Cru Givry.
