Mas Gourdou
Mas Gourdou
Le Mas Gourdou is located 25 km north of Montpellier, in the heart of the Pic Saint Loup A.O.C. The estate, which has been in the same family since the French Revolution, owns several small vineyards, spread across several communities: Valflaunes, Sauteyrargues, and Vacquieres. The current proprietors are the delightful Jocelyne & Jean-Claude Therond. The vines are planted amid forests of green oaks and Aleppo pines, surrounded by Mediterranean foliage (rosemary, thyme, strawberry trees, lavender) which contribute to the flavours in the wines. At the foot of the Hortus Mountain, at an altitude of 150 meters (492 feet), the land is shielded from the cold north winds, the Mistral and Tramontane. Facing south-east, it benefits from maximum exposure to the warm Languedooc sunshine. The planting is essentially composed of Syrah, Grenache Noir, Grenache Blanc, and Mourvedre varieties. The wines are soft and approachable in their youth, whilst having the ability to age for a few years.
