Another amazingly intense wine. The nose has stone/slate, with an array of fruit aromas including (but not limited to) lemon zest, peach, apricot and mango, along with an interesting toffee/fudge note. And what a palate! The flavours of oranges, apricots and grapes are so rich, so intense, so concentrated, yet once again this is a wine that is so focused and zingy with its firm backbone of minerality and acidity. It is just this sort of contrariness that I love in fine Riesling - how can a wine be so luscious and seemingly sweet, yet so utterly bracing, juicy and mouth-watering? Is it worth a couple of quid more than the No.12 Rotschiefer and the No.13 Grauschiefer above? I think it is. A brilliant, delectable wine, with a great future.

The residual sugar in this wine is accompanied by a considerable level of fruit intensity. Lime zest, mandarin orange and sweet apple flavours abound, with a strong hint of wet slate, and a fleeting whiff of fresh root ginger and oregano. The palate provides a veritable fruit cocktail of flavours - from peach and apricot at the sweet/luscious end of the spectrum, to apples, oranges and limes at the tangy end. It always amazes me how one single grape variety can produce a wine with such glorious fruit complexity. But this wine isn't just about the fruit - it also exhibits a strong backbone of clean, laser-like acidity and minerality, which combines effortlessly with the fruit flavours, in a wine of quite stunning purity and a level of enjoyment that transports me effortlessly to a warm summer day. My only worry is that it is just so delicious to drink now, it would be so easy to drink it well before its peak - which I would say will be in around 8 to 10 years. A fantastic wine.

A bright, golden colour wih a watery rim and a nice hint of spritz on pouring, courtesy of a touch of residual CO2. The nose offers notes of dessert apples, lime, orange blossom and wet slate and is also beginning to develop a hint of petrol - trademark Riesling aromas, especially at this stage in its evolution. The palate is still all about fruit though, with concentrated flavours of peach, apricot, apple and citrus, not to mention a delicious grapiness. The texture is generous and mouth-filling, whilst the intense fruit flavours combine perfectly with the racy acidity and slatey minerality, the result being yet another wine which heightens the senses and leaves you wanting more. You can drink this with pleasure now, or age it for a further 8 or more years. Lovely wine.

Ultra-pale straw/gold colour. The nose offers delicate aromas of spring flowers, stone fruits, lime zest and mandarin, with a hint of oregano. More than anything though, this wine speaks strongly of slate/minerality. The palate is loaded with all manner of citrus and stone fruit flavours, and is fairly rich and intense, even honeyed - as you would expect from a wine of this level of ripeness. But all of that intensity and richness is more than matched by utterly mouth-watering acidity and again a strong impression of minerality. The result is a wine of great focus, purity and elegance - and impressive length. As ever, this wine is just wonderful to drink now, but also has great cellaring potential. I would expect it to reach its peak sometime after 2020.

A bright, limpid, pale yellow/straw colour. As with all of the Weins-Prum wines, the nose is delicate and refined, yet full of subtle complexity. This one shows plenty of wet slate minerality, even a hint of steeliness, but also plenty of fruit, in the way of dessert apples, lemon and flowers, along with an enticing hint of clarified butter. Again, the palate has a good deal of residual sugar, but this is tempered with intense, laser-like acidity and that ever-present mineralit, which carries through to a long, lingering finish. This really is elegant in the extreme - and another wine with tremendous potential to age and evolve.

Bright, limpid yellow/gold colour. Quite viscous and rich in the glass. The nose displays intense minerality, reminiscent of wet slate with a hint of kerosene, but also a great deal of fruit/floral intensity, with complex aromas of lime marmalade, all manner of exotic fruits, orange blossom, honeysuckle and a definite whiff of botrytis. Whilst the "standard" Auslese bottlings from Weins-Prum tend towards the elegant, nervy, off-dry end of the spectrum, this one is pretty much a full-on sweet wine, with a level of residual sugar and concentrated, botrytised fruit which for my money places it at the very top end of the Auslese level. The depth and complexity of this wine really is something to behold - sweet dessert apple, peach, passion fruit, apricot and mandarin orange are just a few of the fruit flavours I can pick out, whilst the botrytis adds a honeyed richness, which is matched all the way to a long finish by delicious limey acidity. Current wine-searcher prices for Goldkapsel Rieslings of this sort of quality reveal some rather stratospheric prices, especially for the wines of this grower's next door neighbour JJ Prum. In fact, you would struggle to find a similar wine for under £20 per half - which marks this one out as a rather smart buy.
