The Wine Gang is a unique collaboration between five of the UK’s most renowned wine journalists – namely Tim Atkin, Tom Cannavan, Anthony Rose, Joanna Simon and Olly Smith. They have grouped together to create a website full of reviews and tasting notes on wines from all sectors of the wine trade, from the supermarkets up to the best independent merchants. And in March 2009, tasting notes for a selection of our wines were published on The Wine Gang website, with some extremely pleasing results. Out of 20 wines reviewed, 11 were rated at 90/100 or better (with 2 wines rated 93/100) and none were rated lower than 87/100. Roussillon New Classics case offer

With the neighbouring Languedoc region occupying a good deal of the limelight in recent years, Roussillon sometimes gets (unfairly) overlooked. The hierarchy in Roussillon is a good deal simpler than that of the Languedoc, and bears a similarity to the southern Rhone - and the wines bear more than a passing resemblance, too. The main appellations are Cotes du Roussillon in the south of the region and Cotes du Roussillon Villages in the north. Unlike the Rhone, however, these two appellations can both produce equally good wines - indeed, some great ones. Furthermore, you tend to get a lot more bang for your buck, especially when you consider that a decent Cotes du Rhone Villages wine will cost you upwards of a tenner and often a lot more, whilst decent Chateauneuf du Pape and Gigondas start at around double that figure. In Roussillon, it is possible to buy some stunning wines in the £8 to £12 bracket, with the best wines (both red and white) rarely costing more than about £15. And the coastal region of Collioure is a source of some brilliant dry red and white wines, whilst Banyuls (which is essentially the same region) produces possibly the finest fortified wines in the whole of France. Add to that a wide variety of dry wite wines, plus the delicious fortified Muscats, which are a speciality of the region, and it really does have all the bases covered - as do we, with four of the region's finest growers, offering an array of wines which are a match for any on our list.

We took delivery late in 2008 of lots of new wines and new vintages from several different growers in central and southern Languedoc. Two of these growers, Domaine Monplezy in Pézenas and Domaine Azan in Pinet are completely new to our list, whilst Domaine d'Archimbaud in Saint-Saturnin, Domaine La Colombette (just north of Béziers) and the brilliant Neffies cooperative, north-west of Pézenas are firmly established as customer favourites.

All of these growers' wines are noteworthy in their own way and serve to demonstrate the sheer diversity of wines and styles that can be found in a relatively narrow strip of what is actually quite a large geographic wine region - in other words, the heart of Languedoc. The "Next Day Test" Case - Save £10

We pride ourselves on providing customers with a wealth of information on every wine we sell. And this includes our “next day test”. We appreciate the fact that not everyone wants to finish a whole bottle of wine in one evening – including us! But we also believe that many of our wines are just as good to drink 24 hours after the bottle has been opened. Indeed, some of our wines (especially, though not exclusively, the reds) actually benefit from and improve with 24 hours’ exposure to air. So much so that, for the past 2 or 3 years, we have been including information on the ability of each of our wines to keep for a day (or even more) in an opened bottle.

This approach can also provide a good (though not wholly scientific) indication of how a wine will age in bottle over a number of years, since at least part of the normal ageing process is mimicked by the (albeit accelerated) oxidation and overall development of the wine, once exposed to the air.

We have therefore put together a mixed case of wines, from right across our range, which pass the "Next Day Test". Why not try them and see for yourself? All of the dry whites and reds will either stay fresh or improve after 24 hours. And the sweet white will keep for literally weeks in the fridge, once opened! Minimum order value, delivery charges and times

The minimum order value is £50 (plus the delivery charge). You may of course choose a mix of any wines in our range. Orders between £50 and £175: delivery charge is £6. Orders over £175: delivery is free! (If your order is over £175, please remember to change the delivery charge in checkout to £0.00). Please note: Delivery to non-mainland addresses (Scottish Highlands and Islands, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, etc.) is usually possible, but may not be on a next-working-day basis. It is also more expensive than delivery to mainland addresses, so will be charged at cost (for orders under £175) but with a small discount for orders over £175 - please call us for a quote.
