From grapes grown on limestone and clay soils in the Agly Valley and from granite soils high in the hills at altitudes up to 500m, where the growing season is longer. The colour is a clear, pale yellow with green tints. The nose exhibits aromas of lemon and grapefruit, with subtle smoky, floral and herby notes. The palate is nicely rounded but at the same time deliciously zesty, offering tart apple and soft citrus flavours, with a touch of saline minerality and cracking acidity, all of which leads to a long, spicy finish. We have only limited stocks, so be quick!

Chapoutier's flagship Roussillon white wine, from grapes grown on schistous soils on steep terraces above the village of Collioure, where the Pyrenées tumble into the Mediterranean. The colour is light but intense gold - and the nose is equally intense, offering notes of fleshy fruits such as apricot and peach, with myriad hints of spring flowers, garrigue herbs, honey and freshly-baked brioche. In the mouth, it excites and caresses at the same time, with a complex array of ripe, spicy, gently zesty citrus and soft tree fruit flavours and just the merest lick of fine-grained oak. And - as with its Vignes de Bila Haut sibling (above) - it is chock full of wet stone minerality and salinity. But this really is a big step-up in quality - rich, ripe and full-bodied, yet surprisingly elegant and considerably complex, with a finish that just goes on and on. One of the finest Roussillon whites we have tasted in a long time - not cheap, but worth every penny! Again, we have *very* limited stocks!
