Drink Now, or over the next 5+ years
Well, you couldn't mistake this for anything other than Gamay - although it may well have the structure to evolve into something a little more Pinot-esque. It has a dark-ish ruby core, fading to a raspberry rim, whilst the nose offers a riot of black cherry, redcurrant, orange and super-ripe strawberry aromas, with hints of herbs and red meat. I assume it has seen a few months in (older) oak barrels, which has imbued it with some attractive (though very subtle) notes of cedarwood and forest floor. The palate is very fresh and deeply fruity, with plenty of mouth-watering acidity and grippy tannins, making for a really balanced, fruity, yet very tangy wine. And although it is very easy to drink now, it is far from being a simple glugger - as suggested above, it has plenty of scope for development over the next few years. Top Beaujolais winemaking.
